INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES
PREPARATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS !


Being asked to attend an interview is confirmation that the Client has shown an interest in the skills and experience that you have to offer and is hoping that you are going to be the perfect candidate for the job !

Research


Find out about the Company
Get a full job description
How big is the company?
How long have they been established?
Look at their website
What industry are they in?
Who are it's competitors?

Planning

Write down all details including time, date, location of the interview
Research public transport timetables or parking facilities so you can make a time plan, ensuring you arrive at least 10 minutes early
Do a trial run to the location if this helps
Find out who will be interviewing you

Dress Code

First impressions - must be the right impression
Dress professionally, and do everything in moderation including make-up, perfume, and jewellery !
Most importantly be comfortable with the way you dress, this will give you one less thing to worry about
   
What to take

Current CV
Certificates or awards
References
Notepad and pen
Your prepared questions
One neat handbag or carry folder
   
Structure

Highlight the skills and experience that are relevant
Be ready to explain any employment gaps
Have answers ready in connection with questions you may get asked regarding your CV
Be ready to take notes on company information given to you on the interview
Prepare at least three questions to ask your interviewer - and DON'T be afraid to ask them !
Ask about possible second/third round of interviews
   
Behavior

Always shake the interviewers hand
Always smile
Always introduce yourself
Sit down when invited to
Always maintain good posture
Maintain eye contact, taking notes will allow you a break from this
Do not fiddle, i.e.: hair or jewellery
NEVER smoke or eat, but accept tea/coffee if you are offered and wish to accept
LISTEN carefully and NEVER interrupt your interviewer
Talk slowly and use clear diction
Be honest
Do not ramble, keep answers as informative and clear as possible
NEVER speak ill of any previous employer
Sell yourself - highlight your skills, personality and everything you have to offer the company
Always thank your interviewer for the time they have spared to see you. Indicate your interest in the post and that you look forward to hearing from them
   
After the interview

It is essential to contact your Consultant and advise them as to whether you are interested in the post, or whether a job offer has been made.
Your consultant will contact the company and relay your comments and of course keep you well informed as to the progression of the recruitment process. They will also undertake any salary or package negotiations on your behalf utilising their expertise in the current market
   
Security

Do not give the company any personal details, if they wish to contact you, they will contact you via our office
Never accept changes to the given time, date or location of the interview unless given to you by your Consultant
If the interview is to be held anywhere other than the Company's premises, ensure it is always in a public place, and arranged by your consultant
You will have planned your travel to and from the interview, keep to this and do not accept a lift from the company
Always ensure various people are aware of where and when your interview is to be held
